I don't want to major in music but it's definitely a big part of my life so I want a good cello that will last a long time. I'm at an advanced student level and would hope to not spend more than 8k but would probably go up 10 if I found the perfect cello. - Of course it is up to my parents in the end. :) If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it. They are good cellos for the most part, its kinda hit and miss with some of them as far as sound. I looked at a few but didn't buy one. I ended up spending 16k for a cello from a private maker. (I am a recently graduated muisc major.) There are some other shops in Chicago, though they tend to be pricey. I am currently trying to sell a cello I have it priced at 4k it is a decent instrument. Even though you've played violin, the technique is quite different and there are a lot of things you can do wrong, and actually hurt yourself doing so. You don't have to take a weekly lesson or anything, but at least get someone to help you started with a good technique, and then maybe check in occasionally to make sure you're not going to injure yourself.
